Good food, good times
Venturing into the great outdoors is always more rewarding with good food. My outdoor cooking efforts are usually edible, but it would be nice to step it up a bit. So I consulted our shelves for some inspiration.
Our aisle of Cooking titles is a good place to start for some inspiration. The 'Caravan Chef' Eva Stovern has a couple of titles with a wealth of tips, simple recipes and shopping lists. With their spiral binding they are perfect for 4WD travellers and caravaners alike. Viv Moon has a couple of books featuring recipes for camp ovens, campfires, gas stoves and BBQs and grills. These guides also feature ideas for planning and preparation so it covers the whole experience.
Another useful book is Australian Camp Oven Cooking. I can never judge the timing with a camp oven, so the tips and tricks provided with were really informative. There were lots of recipes, many for things I would never have thought of cooking in a camp oven.
So what am I making next? Well the fruit mince slice was so yummy, I can't wait for our next trip away, I'm cooking it at home next week.
